About
Hey, there. My name’s Garrett. I’m a longtime musician with a passion for sharing my taste and opinions in the world of music.
As of right now, this site is merely a midterm project for an Intro to Music Business class. I’m honestly not sure if it’ll go any further than that, but hey, who knows? Maybe this is the next Lyrical Lemonade… ;)
What is good music? What’s the criteria for a good song? What makes that one song so catchy that you’ll listen to it all day long and not get sick of it? Questions like these have caused millions of debates, and those debates almost never end with an agreement.
My take? Glad you asked:
All music is good. I’m a firm believer in subjectivity. Just because you don’t like a song doesn’t mean it can’t be life-changing for someone else. Sure, there are songs that I can’t stand the sound of. Does that mean it’s bad? Hell no. It’s just not for me, and that’s totally cool.
The key to true, raw enjoyment is an open-minded approach. Practice some active listening. Tap your foot to the beat. Imagine yourself performing the song. Feel the rhythm in your bones. Let it create a new emotion in your head and scratch an itch in your soul. Don’t just listen to the track - experience it.
Herein lies the goal of this platform. Maybe you’ll find that song that you can put on repeat. Maybe you’ll find the basis of your argument for the next musical debate you find yourself in. Maybe you’ll develop a liking for a whole new genre.
Whatever it is, I hope it’s meaningful. I’m so stoked to share my thoughts with you.
Thanks for being here. Welcome to Rhythmic Ramblings.
